Every time a writer here types the word “orientalism” in article they should consider that fact

Indeed, I really like this article and think it makes good points, and really don’t understand why it’s getting flack from anyone here. But implying that Ex Machina dehumanizes Kyoko is just a complete misread of that film. The actions of the characters within the film notwithstanding, Kyoko and Ava, the other robot,…
What even is your point. Do you think other settings don’t have baggage? If this games setting was the U.S.. Would this game have to educate us on the Native American genocide and slavery? If it was set in Germany would the story have to be about the holocaust. Why do people pretend that the U.S and Europe are the…
I liked when the kitty got a bag stuck on its head.
I’ll start this by saying that anyone is free to feel insulted by whatever they feel insulted by. But I - an Asian-American living in a third world country - really think this criticism is stretching a bit.
I actually don’t think using a real life aesthetic makes you have “a responsibility to grapple with its history.” I see the rice hat idea is being a bit more questionable, but “they didn’t insert a painful history lesson about a real life community (that had nothing to do with the story of their game)“ is... a plus?
Yet this site name is Kotaku. If there is a sense of irony about “appropriation” being ignored here... *shrugged*
All due respect, Ex Machina does not deserve the shade you are throwing its way via that New Yorker article. Try this alternative:
I agree with the classic cyberpunk tropes and orientalism especially with the hats (“Get it? These are Asian robots...”), but I’m not so sure the developers had an obligation to explain the history. Sounds like the choice for the location was very much inspired from the perspective of a cat. It’s also a fictional…
Choco Taco, much like the Klondike Bar itself, has been getting smaller and more crappy for like 15+ years now. The last time I had a Choco Taco, it didn’t even have a crunch to it, the ‘taco shell’ part was soggy and paste like.

Ah.. the uprising begins. “It’s still my turn, Christopher...”
Is it just me, or has there been a huge increase in demon based horror movies in the past few years?
A quick google check shows that allowing druids to wildshape into an owlbear is a hugely common homebrew rule. Despite being kind of iconic for being hardcore (and looking cool), owlbears aren’t really much tougher than the kind of beasts druids can wildshape into, like a raging bear.
Because of your comment, WotC is changing owlbears to beasts in the 2024 edition of the game. Happy now?
“In the comics, this was especially egregious, since superpowered people save the world with a reliable regularity that mutant discrimination feels even sillier.”
i am so sorry i cannot tell if you’re trolling or not and i’m genuinely invested in whether or not you’re trolling.
Looks a lot better than grumpy Mr. Blue Lips standing around while Jeremy Irons is chewing up the scenery.
Surprise! This whole movie is just a campaign that the kids from Stranger Things are playing.
This looks genuinely fun.
