I actually came down to the comments thread to say something like this, or at least related to it. Just browsing Kotaku’s front page is like seeing how angry you should be about this and that. “People are arguing about Pokemon visuals.” “Critical Role essentially has the same cast it always does...” “The Inventory…

I understand people’s reticence to this, especially if you belong to the cultures this particular fantasy-inspired campaign exists in, but if your example boils down to them wearing some costumes in a silly promo piece that explorers used to wear, then that’s... not a lot.

That pretty much somes up 99% of the “outrage” reported by the news thjese days.  Its a handful of people on Twitter bitching.

You see by putting in that proviso they get to sweep that interpretation of their article to the side as illegitimate. I don’t make the rules, but that’s how they work.  This allows them to then proceed to engage in the overly cynical and bad-faith interpretation, because at the end of the day that’s much easier than…

Maybe they thought that dressing up in traditional attire of cultures that aren’t their own as white people would’ve been 10x worse.

No one is ‘so mad’, it’s just like 20 people on Twitter. I’ve seen just as many people be happy to be represented and feel seen by the campaign.

In the end...it really is just Dungeons and Dragons.  It has inspirations from other cultures...sure.  It also has dragons and talking robots and people who can shoot fire from their hands.  Why doesn’t the author make the same complaint of Wizards of the Coast themselves?

So....a solution? Sounds like you don’t want them to explore these cultural identifiers and the explorer-genre tropes. Should half the cast be fired and people you find “approved” be playing this game?

You know, until Rise of Skywalker, I would have told you that Nemesis - a film probably best remembered now for casting Tom Hardy in 2002 - was worse than any Star Wars movie. 

Star Trek has five good films.  Fake God convinces a laughing Vulcan to steal a spaceship and Bald Girl leads the crew to hook up with a lost satellite are not good films in any way.

there’s a youtuber I enjoy (Jellopocalypse) who has a review system from 10 to -10 with a 10 being a fantastic movie and a -10 being a fantastic train wreck with the worst rating being a 0. This is because most of the time a truly awful movie is entertaining for how bad it is but a boring movie is just awful.

I believe this could also be reframed as “SJP Respecting Kim Cattrall’s Wishes.”

That’s... actually one of the more gracious ways to admit cheating I’ve ever seen. Admitting, deleting all the fake stuff, and paying back the money. Deleting the socials is probably a wise decision for his own sake. More people should do that regardless of admission of guilt.
