Yeah, procedures or treatments definitely need to get prior authorization quite often. I haven’t had problems seeing a specialist in-network with my PPO plan, but I definitely believe it can happen.

It depends on your plan. If you have a PPO, you can see any doctor you want if it’s in-network. If you have an HMO, then you have to have a PCP and get referrals. PPOs usually have higher deductibles and copayments though, so it’s a trade off.

I don’t know about refusing to release you, but the one time I was in the ER seriously sick I did not have a PCP and had to find one quick for follow up care. It would have been much easier if I already had someone to send the medical records to and not have to deal with finding someone while I was horribly sick.

I’ve never had nice furniture before, mostly used or cheap IKEA stuff, and I’m getting a custom couch made now. It seems really indulgent and I feel guilty about it even though I saved up for it, but the couch obviously gets used a lot and it makes me happy, so screw it. Cheerleaders are already living in a culture of harassment and are severely underpaid. It was extraordinarily brave of her to do this, but I worry about her safety.

You made me curious and I looked it up and apparently “roshambo” is more popular on the West Coast, especially Northern California, which I guess explains why I grew up with this version! I never realized it wasn’t the popular term everywhere!
