At least with hazing the analogy works!

Aren't they not supposed to be doing that?

I haven't seen Borneo, but I just watched Australia for the first time and I was surprised by how deeply unpleasant Jerri seemed. I'd heard people dismissing her as a villain from a different era at whom we wouldn't raise an eyebrow now, but I was really feeling the Jerri hate. She seemed like a genuinely mean person

I don't care if Cochran means it, I just can't stand how happy it makes Jeff!

But he was Jon's ally!

"This is how my dad treated me when I was a child, so I'm just doing the same thing to you." Do you not see the ways this is different?

Yeah I just watched Panama over the summer and for me what made that season fun was that in addition to all the middling casting they had the brilliantly strategic and personally charming Cirie and her fairly likable buddy, super hot Panama Aras. So far here I haven't seen those few standouts who (for whatever reason)

I found the "lost to a girl" thing pretty bad, although it was exactly what Jeff wanted him to say. The presence of couples (well, straight couples) on this show brings out the worst in Jeff. He's always turning to the men and asking them to say something condescending, and they usually go with it. In the first blood

That is one surprisingly fun outcome of casting a bunch of people who don't know the game. The moment at tribal when Jeremy got so frustrated that he was just trying to explain how the game works, secrecy be damned, and Kelley was laughing along was pretty great.

Penner not being afraid of Jeff is my very favorite thing about Penner. Cochran stroking Jeff's ego is my least favorite thing about Cochran, although it works well for him.

Come on, take pity on those of us who struggled through the American education system.

I also recently read Goodbye to Berlin, along with Mr. Norris Changes Trains, and really enjoyed them both. I second the recommendation!

Oh I agree that the show didn't give us much Sophie. That's another part of why I completely understand why people hate this season. I liked the early glimpses we got of her and had her picked as my favorite in the first or second episode and watched her like a hawk throughout the season. The story I was watching was

So she should have gotten rid of the obnoxious people for our benefit, or for honor or something? I'm impressed that she put up with all the nonsense that season not because she had no choice but because it was a winning strategy.

It's slander if you say it and libel if you write it down. One of you had it right. I cannot restrain myself from telling you this. I'm sorry.

It's probably the hardest I've ever rooted for someone on Survivor and also one of the few times it worked out. I can see exactly why everyone hates it, but for me all those things are just evidence of Sophie's determination and forbearance. Seriously, can you believe she put up with that shit?

So that's how you keep things so pleasant around here!

I agree with every complaint you have about South Pacific, but I just can't agree with your ranking because for me that season is the story of Sophie's triumph over all the worst impulses of this show. Survivor tried to be its most horrible self, and my new favorite player gritted her teeth and emerged victorious.

YES all of this

I agree with @JudgeReinhold:disqus that it wasn't his past that got him kicked out, but he was, incidentally, a dick on the show. Losing to a girl? Ass. If you respect someone it can't be inherently shameful to lose any kind of competition to them.
