Also I can't seem to get the cover art to copy across by drag and drop as Adam suggests (from Amazon, IMDB or anywhere)... any ideas anyone?

@jim817: Could you clarify?

I love iTunes smart playlists, but this is an idea I hadn't come up with.

Oi, Trapani, stop blogging and go and enjoy Xmas day!! ;-)

Wow... I might subscribe to this blog just to see how the hell it is possible to maintain a regular flow of posts on knife sharpening tips. :-P

I had a broken lightbulb I'd got well and truly stuck trying to take out with pliers months ago and had resigned myself to calling an electrician.

Not sure why you've got iSproggler on there - the current version of Last.FM's software scrobbles music off iTunes and your iPod when it syncs to iTunes, which as far as I can tell makes iSproggler unnecessary (but I may be missing something here).

Best blog ever.

I'm so glad I took the time to move my todos from 30boxes to RTM. Completely agree with everyone else, with this level of integration with Gmail and Gcal and easily the best todo manager around Google would be crazy not to just buy RTM.

I'm afraid Kevin already posted this...

Bugger me. This is a really good idea, I don't know why it hadn't occurred to me to use gmail IMAP to do this...

Not sure about the subconscious mind working away on tomorrow's problems overnight (I'm a neuroscientist by the way), but I think this is a good thing to do for entirely the opposite reason.

Actually, TiddlyWiki solves the biggest problem of paper-based notes - that of effectively managing and collating notes made on a single topic but at different times.

I tend to do academic reading in front of a computer and make notes directly into my TiddlyWiki which goes everywhere with me on my USB key. TiddlyWiki has completely revolutionised the way I manage information during my PhD.

The Japanese one flummoxed me for ages, but I found an English version soon afterwards and I've been folding at light speed ever since.

@nad: Actually it's not Shift-3 on Euro keyboards, the # key is with the tilde :-P (sorry!). Well, at least on UK ones.

Can I just ask what the advantage of install SyncToy is if you're already running SyncBack which does synchronisation as well as backup? I'm assuming there's a reason you've listed both of them separately but I'm not seeing it...

I use locknote.exe, as single encrypted text file.

I don't get this... it's EASY to tie a tie the regular way in less than 10 seconds (I've just timed myself) and because you're doing it on yourself you will get the length RIGHT unlike this method where you're likely to screw up the length (and as INVID said, that's not including the setup time).

This definitely works. I've always wondered what people are on about when they say onions make you tear because it never happens to me.
