OK. Are we doing future crime now?
OK. Are we doing future crime now?
It’s the exact reverse of the sentiment Stewart voiced about cancel culture just last week. It’s the kind of reversal — seemingly hypocritical about the subject now it involves a friend — he would have mocked on the Daily Show.
My favorite Green Lantern hasn’t weighed in the topic, but the former host of the Daily Show:
I don’t have a problem with Chappelle leveraging his influence in a contract dispute. Corporations leverage the economic advantages they have all the time. People tend to treat contracts like holy writ, but they can be the basis of a negotiation.
Oh, the prequels are still awful, imo the stilted tone and numerous questionable creative decisions are hard to get past and make it difficult to appreciate what Lucas is doing well. But:
“I want everyone in this audience to know that even though the media frames it that it’s me versus that community, that’s not what it is. Do not blame the LGBTQ community for any of this. It’s about corporate interests, and what I can say, and what I cannot say.”
Those subtle cues worked for me, I guess grossly underestimated the ability of neophyte fans to pick them up and/or the number of Herbert fans in the general movie audience. I’m not surprised a gifted filmmaker like Villenueve is making smart choices, but their effectiveness exceeded my expectations.
I’m in exactly the same place. As a fan of the novel, I largely love Villeneve’s interpretation but had serious concerns whether neophyte viewers would find it accessible or be satisfied with the abruptness of the narrative. I also felt Villeneve underplayed certain elements — the massiveness of the empire and its…
I never thought I would say this about a character named “Sully” being played by a guy from Boston, but I still just don’t get the Marky Mark casting for that role.
Thanks, confused that with the FX OJ trial miniseries.
100% agree although its usually not as overt as cutting out safety measures. What is usually cut is time — time to train, time of production, time to recover etc. Studios tighten budgets and producers squeeze their crews and talent to make the difference. That in my experience is what creates an overworked and…
When are these tech geniuses going to realize that free markets, algorithms, blockchains and “radical honesty” can’t solve everything, at some point one has to make an ethical (or unethical) choice?
I am presuming that only fictional series were considered as I saw no nonfiction, documentary, reality, talk or variety series on the list. Nor do I see any sketch comedies or unusual formats like Between Two Ferns.
I am legitimately shocked, because date rape is the thing I remember most about Eros as a character. While its true that Marvel has been able to rehab Hank Pym, I never thought of Eros as that important a character to retain. I had heard that both Harry Styles and Keanu Reeves were circling potential parts and had…
That’s almost Carol Danvers-giving-birth-to -her-own-rapist levels of Eww, but at least the story acknowledges the abomination in the moment.
IMO you’re conflating a couple of things with respect to the “marketplace of ideas” phrase.
This is the last appearance of Spider Man anywhere ever.
And there it is, most people are just too fucking stupid to understand the issue
The MCU damaged Hawkeye by giving his cocky asshole persona from the comics to Tony Stark (which admittedly turned out to be a successful idea). People don’t like Renner imo because he wanted to be likable: he wanted to be a leading man type and a pop singer, and I think people prefer him playing dangerous, edgy,…
I’m really glad to see Renner playing a dark complicated asshole again. He’s intensely watchable when he’s in this mode, and while I understand as an actor he wants to show his range, I think the decline in interest in him as a star (he’s not getting many leading man movie parts lately) has a lot to do with him trying…
