mostly the movie extends the option on Hollywood’s baffling collective decision to employ him as an all-American can-do adventurer rather than an underachieving goofball.

I’m referring to Sylvie’s plan after B-15 took them both back to Roxxon and discovered the TVA’s big secret — that they were all variants. At that point Sylvie and B-15 are allies. Sylvie goes back to her holding cell because she still wants take down the TVA and rescue Loki — she doesn’t want to escape or turn up…
* For a moment at the beginning of the show, I thought the writers had taken the bold step of killing off both Loki and Sylvie, pulling a young Loki out of the timeline to start over.
It’s so unfair. Her thicker bone density means she can smile wider and wave to the audience far longer than her competitors. Whatever happened to an even playing field?
The campaign — imo it largely was a media campaign — generated a little extra mainstream attention for DC comics and helped them gauge interest on new titles, many of which they were already working on. It’s not the best way to choose comics to publish, but I don’t think it would have done much harm if DC hadn’t made…
My guess is that this was a marketing rather than creative decision. DC wanted overt branding of LGBTQ support not just for fans but for press much less familiar with their characters and teams, where A-Force was primarily focused on fandom. And I think another media company has a superhero group with an LGBTQ theme…
The growing tension between them of will they/won’t they get a slice of pie after bringing down the bad guy
I’m just saying that this heist was only a couple of years after the cancellation of Cory In The House:
Just once I’d like to see a former child star in trouble for something that doesn’t involve sexual exploitation and/or child endangerment and/or drugs. Like “Former Disney Child Star In Trouble For Near Flawless Heist Of Valuable Picasso From The Louvre”.
My guess is that he was in a Russian brothel working off a gambling debt.
I don’t understand the comparison to Get Out. This movie is more like The Intruder and many other stories about black people integrating a neighborhood facing harassment and terror from their white neighbors. Multiple movies and tv episodes that have covered similar territory as far back as the ‘50s and ‘60s.
Wasn’t there a similar (though nonmusical) scenario in the movie Big Fish?
Possibly, and there is always a chance Marvel has figured out how to do that. But they have already changed a lot of lore from the comics in this movie — as they often do in all their films — and I don’t think retaining the name of a relatively obscure character would be a huge priority.
Oh hell yes. I wonder if the MCU could ever go as dark and deep into body horror as Al Ewing’s run.
Now he can duet with Andy Ngo, who’s known for playing a conservative base.
It’s a call back to the iron rings historically used as training tools and weapons in Kung Fu. Additionally, it looks more dramatic.
I understand your disappointment but Fin Fang Foom is a bunch of nonsense words strung together to sound Asian-y. It’s not Long Duk Dong, but its offensive in its own way.
Many of my favorite black actors in a big budget action movie that combines the style and tone of blaxploitation films and spaghetti westerns? The gods are kind!
Serling definitely used mystery boxes, but also plenty of O’ Henry style twists. The difference was Serling used these devices in service of episodic, anthology style storytelling, while Lynch (and Mark Frost) used MBs to advance a serialized story, a much rarer combination imo.
