ElectricSheep, I’m not only a worker in the entertainment industry, I’m a black worker in the entertainment industry. Unions aren’t perfect, but it’s precisely this perspective that has shown me their value in promoting the opportunity and access of black workers including journalists.

There is absolutely no way that the Disney organization is unaware of the negative connotation of that kissing trope— they employ a lot of resources precisely to learn about and avoid these type of sensitivities. Disney princesses are a huge brand and revenue priority, thus prone to a great deal of scrutiny. And

Union rights don’t get Black journalists into the HFPA. You’re worried about what helps you, but everything isn’t about you.

This is incredibly stupid and wokeness has nothing to do with it. Kids — the major audience for the park is children under 10 and their parents— don’t care about the kiss and there is not a huge contingent of adults demanding it for their own pleasure. How did this decision get past numerous layers of Disney

I feel like Ego has leveled up ever since the Daniel Kaluya episode, like something clicked for her like an athlete finding their rhythm. The Nigerian mom she played in that episode was one of her finest moments and she shines again here portraying another beleaguered matriarch.

I am a worker in the industry and don’t deny the value of any action that facilitates more diversity. But I’d also like to see actors put some of that energy behind, for example, protecting union rights for everyone. That also helps me as a member of the industry and has a direct positive effect for the public as well.

The Golden Globes are unimportant. I wish that influence and protest were used for something more meaningful.

I’m glad Stanfield apologized but I’m more bothered some people find that Farrakhan is worth discussing. He’s just another flavor of conservative, reactionary religiousity that makes me glad I’m agnostic.

Apropos of nothing, I would love Gunn and Bautista to team up on a Doc Savage movie.

Is Jordan supposed to play a role in the film? If so, I hope it’s Hardware.

No doubt Static is a lot more interesting than Cyborg and potentially more powerful. Should a teenager be in the Justice League? I know technically Cyborg is a teen, but he reads as an adult (still don’t want him on the team). Quintessential Static is young teenager. I would like to see an adult Static in the JL but

It doesn’t matter if Gates is one of the better people in his echelon of society or that at least some of his motivations are good, both suppositions I am willing to believe. His entire cadre are ruining a finite planet and killing people, inexorably and permanently, and are largely unaccountable for those outcomes.

I know it should be perfectly obvious that actors can transform— that’s the entire job—nevertheless I’m gobsmacked by how much Jodi Turner-Smith disappeared completely in the role of Greer. And whomever in another kinja said this woman should be Storm when Marvel reboots the X-Men is completely right.

Is there really a need to shit on Bill Gates? I’ve seen enough of it from right wing sources and now this one too?

I love this movie more than I should because it coincided with HBO and MTV making my suburban existence slightly more bearable. Coppola was such an unpredictable, fascinating entity in that period, swerving from Apocalypse Now to The Outsiders and Rumblefish to One From the Heart. He was an iconoclast whose operatic,

I think you’re largely right, but I still liked Kevin Costner and Diane Lane’s Jonathan and Martha, even when I hated what the script made them say. “You are my son!” Gets me every time. There are dynamics between certain characters, like Bruce and Alfred or Zod and Jor-el, that actually got poignant. And the scene

Exactly. The heart wants what the heart wants, and it wants me to impale another heart with a blood icicle.

Punks know Danzig is a dick. And his asshole fans had no problem trying to cancel a punk band.

I think the issue you are describing is more an artifact of an overly proprietary and toxic fan culture, who can’t express their dissatisfaction in mature ways or can’t accept not everything in a franchise is made for them, rather than misguided head canon.

I guess Ass Creed (great motto for an ‘80s frat house btw) was kind of a spinoff and/or retrofit on existing lore. The trouble is it didn’t bring much clarity to the premise and spent much of its time in the present day, the least interesting aspect of the game for players.
