I think Burlesque performers (which is what is being showcased in the opening credits), both then and now, would contend that they have as much agency as Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion, and perhaps even blazed a trail for them. Certainly Broadway and Hollywood star Cyd Charisse had agency as well.

The point is that the women in the movie’s  opening credits are white (or appear to be) and the film is 50+ years old but nobody is demanding it be pulled from where general audiences can see it. 

Any kid with access to YouTube or Amazon Prime can watch the opening credits to The Silencers, a Dean Martin movie made in 1966, right now.

Bleeding Gums Murphy was a caricature of an African American jazz player and there’s no reason he couldn’t have a multi ethnic background like real life Jazz musician Charles Mingus many other black musicians. I think the core point still stands.
