Hey, they’ve got to advertise somewhere. It’s not like Leti could check out her Yelp reviews.

I think Leti was due at least a partial refund. That Orisha was no newbie. You mean that is the first time an evil spirit has washed away the protective blood mark with a spray of water. She didn’t cover it with plastic wrap or petroleum jelly? That’s malpractice, or the magical equivalent.

Not one question about Carlito’s Way and Benny Blanco?

Lots of wives, children and father figures but hardly any mothers. Even Bruce Wayne’s father is the more prominent of the parents.

This comment deserves more stars.

* Did the Orisha die? One thing I enjoy about the show is that so far its inverted the horror movie trope of black people being disposable. It’s the white characters that are fodder for supernatural terrors: whenever a black person is killed, its directly from very human white violence. We don’t see the Orisha in the

The robot is canon, not just of the Rocky films, but the secret lore of the Planet Hollywood triumvirate. The robot was a product developed by a subsidiary of the Nakatomi corporation, later spun off and renamed Cyberdyne Systems, and is a precursor of the T-800.

It’s something you live with every day, it can always come back, but the good thing is most of us have recovered and are doing well. I hope the same is true for your family member.

I’m tired of admiring Obama, I need to see some victories for things other than himself and see some actual progress emerge from his stubborn addiction to the status quo and not rocking the boat. Obama is why we have Tom Perez and why we have Biden, why the Democrats have a centrist political platform that they are

I’m also a cancer survivor, as is my Mom and some friends and family. A friend succumbed to brain cancer late last year. It’s amazing to realize how many people have cancer in their lives, and that’s what makes Chadwick’s already significant accomplishments even more meaningful.

That scene always choked me up, because I’m a fanboy but also because Black Panther meant more than that. Watching it now, knowing that Chadwick shot that scene while battling cancer... I couldn’t stop myself from crying.

Very nicely argued, hornacek, but allow me to retort:

I can’t remember any black romantic comedies after Claudine until Coming to America (1988) although that is more of a screwball comedy than a romcom. Boomerang (1990) is probably the first full fledged romantic comedy and both films are centered around the male lead, Eddie Murphy. It’s odd that for such a female

Vampires are odd metaphors for marginalized groups or minorities— as they are portrayed in TB — because while many are victims (made undead against their will), their survival literally depends on killing humans.

I was annoyed by the casting choice at first, but this quote... Boone obviously understand how bad he sounds, which is stunning. He’s equating a positive, “silver spoon” image of Brazil with white skin.

He’s part of the Secret Six but he really fits Suicide Squad too.

He may be a bit old for the role, but I can’t unsee Michael Keaton as Joe Exotic. They look alike and even some of their gestures are similar (especially if you watch Beetlejuice).

It was expensive meh from the start. Some highlights, mostly in the first season, but overall I never understood why people thought this was a good show. The only thing I found compelling was the Edgar Allan Poe hologram. It was mid level SYFY network writing trying to be deep.

Very different themes, but the art style and biblical subject matter immediately made me think of Chester Brown’s Jesus Wept Over the Feet of Mary: Prostitution and Religious Obedience in the Bible. People may find Brown’s assertions controversial and debatable, but its a compelling work that examines its source

I’ve become quite torn on the issue of all the problems that are conflated as cancel culture. I largely agree with Rich: cancelling, boycotts, protests are themselves a form of speech; the debate over cancel culture is co-opted and distorted by bad faith actors as wide ranging Weiss, Taibbi, Bret Weinstein, Zaid
