The city itself is, like you said, progressive and inclusive enough. The suburbs, particularly the working class suburbs, are where I’d wager most of the worst offenders are from. Even Southie is gentrified now.

As a ‘fan’ there are few teams more enraging than the Pirates, whose cast offs could fill an all star roster and whose 20-straight losing seasons are still a recent memory. Now this McCutcheon drama. He’s the closest thing to a star they’ve had in a decade — what’s the rush to chase him off after one lousy season?

I love baseball but I rarely watch games on TV. I have young kids and go to bed early. ESPN night games start too late, so they usually end at 11 or so. Secondly, I use sling not cable, so I don’t get NESN to watch The SAWKS.

I ran track in college (DIII!!!) but we competed at plenty of regional meets with D1 teams (Vandy, Ole Mis, Miss St. etc) because they were close by and good competition.
