I just mentioned it because i had the same gripe about my VW’s paddles taking input as a suggestion to shift and not as a command. Shifting the trans into automatic sport, then into manual mode seemed to clear some of that up.

My daughter had a Fusion rental. You can sort of see what was my big gripe with the car in the final photo there looking out the windshield. The glass lays back so that from the inside the A pillars fell right in my line of sight.

The acceleration itself was okay, but the six-speed automatic didn’t take my breath away with its ridiculously smooth, if a bit leisurely shifts. And the paddle shifters took my commands, contemplated telling me to go pound sand, and then begrudgingly moved the cogs in the gearbox.

That’s right human life has nothing to do with this accident.
