Black Mirror is currently the best show on TV.

Sometimes music enhances an episode of television, or a movie… and sometimes the episode/movie pays back, making the music itself better than before.

With this branching out into multiple replies now, and already taking more of my time than I can afford, I should make this my final contribution to our discussion — but I sincerely thank you for it. Whether you agree with me or not (and I am sure that you do not, and that's okay), I hope it has been worthwhile for

LOL, you keep things short like I keep things short! :) But really, I appreciate that. These are complex and nuanced topics, and they need a little room… which is partly my way to apologize for the ungodly length of the reply I'm about to compose.

We don't need to get pedantic about "sexism" vs. "bigotry" vs. "discrimination" here. When you say that this action (intentionally hiring directors of only one sex or gender) may "push things a little closer to fairness," you're already relying upon the same essential standard I call for.

The central idea I'm advocating here is pretty straightforward, and it really has nothing to do specifically with Objectivism (except insofar as Objectivism is pro-logic, pro-reason): You don't work towards a bigotry-free world by practicing your own form of supposedly corrective bigotry. Instead what that does is

I would say that the first way to address or solve the kinds of problems we're talking about is by not making them worse. If it's not enough "to stand by disapprovingly while an unjust system continues unabated," which is not anywhere in what I said, then at least don't make things worse while you indulge your "moral

It's neither acknowledging the existence of sexism or fighting against sexism which makes a person "sexist" — or otherwise wrong.

20 years ago, you were pretty bright. ;) I kid, I kid! But as to views being — or not being — a good fit with reality, well, that's sort of the Objectivist core. If any held views are incompatible with reality, a right thinking person should drop those views… but this is sort of a restatement of the Objectivist views

I respect the hell out of you, E, but disagree here.

Bigly!

Because calling her "the lesser of two evils" without further elaboration hides the fact that Trump is far far worse.

Libertarians have a particular point of view, it's true, but we are also people with brains (and hearts, and uhm… kidneys). I'm voting for Hillary because the alternative is Donald Fucking Trump.

I don't plan on reading this, but based on the review, I'm glad it exists.

You may laugh, but balsamic vinegar can't melt steel beams!

Was it croquet, or "roque"? It's been a long time, but I seem to remember there being a distinction between the two discussed in that novel.

Is…this an example of a comment?

I'm not a big fan of downplaying fears of Trump because "he's not serious." There's precedent in the world for that sort of thing, not taking a big-talking demagogue seriously.

One question I think is worth considering is: what is their respect for "rule of law" — and for our foundational values?

But people have been trying to erode those checks and balances for a long time — at least the last 100 years, but probably more. Every time one group has "their guy" in office, they press for more power to the Executive… and those powers have accreted. Congress has largely defaulted on their responsibilities, time and
