Does anyone even remember 1999's “Boys Don’t Cry”? Hilary Swank won the Oscar for best actress. It was one of the best reviewed movies that year. So I don’t see why Scarlett shouldn’t be given a chance.

It’s okay for actors to do their jobs. In fact, we used to celebrate and reward actors and actresses for taking on difficult roles that required them to learn to depict the world through someone else’s eyes. That’s what acting is. It’s literally their job.
