Kudos to all of us that have planted the IWC flag at The Root these last couple days. Good job, fellow nerds.

Can’t argue too much with any of those. The WM35 main event wasn’t helped by the shitty/possibly botched finish, too.
Son of a bitch, I promise I hadn’t seen this before I posted. Yep, absolutely Johnny Football.
Yeah, Dennis had an entire, full, HOF career. Agreed, not the best comp.
The Rock got over on his own
Yeah, fixating too much on how Kofi’s reign ended ignores that he was given half a year as champion despite pretty much everything falling flat. They’d have been justified in getting that belt off him with a quickness.
Not to set aside the WWE’s long history of racism, but the vast majority of champions of any color don’t get a “proper reign” in that company where the left hand has no idea what the right hand is doing. Kofi was a career midcarder that got a seven-month WWE title run. Bianca got the same Mania-to-Summerslam title run…
And circling back to the “ain’t no fucking way this was anything other than a response to Punk’s AEW debut,” the WWE merchandise team was instructed to work on new Becky stuff a mere 48 hours before Summerslam. So not only did they not HAVE to book this match, it was obviously a slapdash, last-second thing.
Yeah, the brand split makes it easier. Angle/Guerrero at XX, Cena/JBL at 21, I’ll go non-title and say Edge/Foley at 22, Batista/Taker at 23, etc.
And there’s more to come, as Punk teased last night. Fuck, I love this company.
One final-ish thought on this: I don’t disagree with the criticism of how Belair’s title run ended and how Becky’s return was presented. It was a major fail.
There were also three times as many people in that building, and that was much closer to a pure surprise. Punk got that pop with everyone knowing he was coming. Even considering that- and even if you ignore that the crowd sustained that volume for Punk for the next 20 minutes- per person, no, it wasn’t anywhere near…
That’s a good comparison. It’d be a fun exercise to go back through previous Mania’s and see what the Saturday main event would’ve been if you split it up into two nights. Rock/Hogan and HHH/Jericho each getting their own night at WMX8 immediately comes to mind.
That’s the reports, yes. It’s expected that she’s the top heel moving forward. (Which, given that a)Reigns is the top star in wrestling already as a heel on that brand, and b)Becky is the only women’s star that comes close to being the top overall star in the company, I think I’d want my top women’s star to be a face,…
I guess the reason it would be a “positive example” is how it ended. The main event of WM30 is one of the best moments in wrestling history for my money.
*in general, not “in history,” FUCK I hate not being to edit past 15 minutes
(NOTE: unless we’re on some Saturday Night’s Main Event type of shit, where the main event goes on early because they were trying to mimic the pacing of an SNL. It seems like AEW Rampage may be going for something like this based on the placement of the show’s biggest things in the first two episodes. But for a PPV?…
New Day’s entire gimmick (which is one of the most popular in the last 10 years of WWE, easily) is being goofy nerds. “Body Slam Crunch” or something tough and badass like that would only work if it was purely for irony, because even though they’re badasses in the ring that’s just not who they are.
Yep, I thought the exact same thing last night and wanted to post it, but for whatever reason I can’t post shit here on my phone.
They chanted for Bryan so much the following night on Raw that Cena had to acknowledge it.
