I agree. But let me offer this observation. On my flight Friday evening on American, we all celebrated being on the last flight of a captain who was retiring after 31 years with American.  We land.  He retires.  The next day, hundreds of AA flights are cancelled. Coincidence? I think not.

I think her experience might be quite a lot different than yours.  Returning to you birthplace to live as a local in your 20's is a lot different than retiring to the islands.  Just having the same skin color won’t keep you from being a cultural stranger who doesn’t blend in.
