I think the show was out of it’s element with that episode. It also just didn’t make much sense to me. Spike didn’t have a soul when he did that. But nothing Angel did as Angelus counts once he gets his back. Angel is a totally different person without a soul, Spike is pretty much the same.

I don’t think she was necessarily grandstanding, but it made me feel a little weird simply because not everyone likes hugs. I have no problem hugging someone who is in distress or experiencing some kind of emotion, but I always ask the person first. Not everyone likes to be touched.
