Strike One: The reason CryENGINE was chosen is because there’s a HUGE pool of devs with years of experience in the engine from which to hire from. Creating their own engine would’ve added years to the project and would have had zero experienced talent to draw from.

My guess is this is different. People are litterally STILL throwing money at the game, telling them to make MORE game and add MORE features. I’d imagine anyone defending it is just trying to let you know these developers are doing exactly what the already-paying customers are asking for.
