I think dress codes are pretty stupid in general if they aren’t closely tied to function (like requiring close toed shoes in a lab), but if as a restaurant you’re not even requiring formal wear, then just stop. You’re not fooling anyone. You’re just an Applebee’s that got too big for its britches.

I hate how that sort of thing is used as an insult as well. I’m a woman, but I feel the same way you do about it, because I happen to enjoy the same activity. I actually got my closest friends not to use it to denigrate others, mostly by offering up better, more original insults that don’t denigrate anyone.

I’m just bemused by the sheer number of accounts I follow in Instagram that haven’t posted anything in months suddenly putting up a black graphic today. I don’t doubt their sincerity, I’m glad for the show of support but it seems so easy as to be kind of meaningless.
