American Autarky, available everywhere in 2024!
With the release of American Underdog, nearly every American [NOUN] movie title has now been taken. Filmmakers wishing to use this lazy but popular formulation should be advised that only the following original titles are now available:
American Persiflage
American Bezoar
American Funambulist
American Spitchcock
The anime is 4% bodyfat lean, and ripped like Hugh Jackman after three days of fasting before a shirtless Wolverine scene. The live action show is Dad Bod.
Having worked my way slowly through it, the live action show is... fine? It’s more entertaining than this review makes it sound, but I very much agree that something gets lost in translation. Well, a lot of somethings. Not least of all it grounds a LOT of the action that otherwise takes place in space. Which I kinda…
See, what I didn't do was run out and rebinge the whole anime series in the run-up to this - therein lies the road to anal gripe-a-tude. The show is way better if the anime is somewhere in your subconscious and not in recent memory.
For a while, I struggled to try to finally determine which Trek show was worse, Discovery or Voyager (turns out the real answer is, “Picard!”)
Part of it is that Star Trek in the eighties and nineties was an oddity on tv already; more high minded, philosophical and because of the limitations of technology often forced to resolve the story conflicts by having its actors talk to each other.
No Ed is a huge red flag for me.
It’s ten episodes and Ed doesn’t show up until, what, 9 of the original? I also bet you’re right about the tag at the end of the season.
Having recently watched all the anime, I don't get fandom's obsession with Ed. They're goofy fun but.... okay? They show up like halfway through the show and take off before the finale. Take it easy.
Oh, my mistake. Nothing about the show was manufactured with prurient intent in mind at all then.
The Verge did a double-review with both someone who’s watched the original and someone who hadn’t.
I’m not going to ever say “don’t watch the original,” particularly when it comes to Bebop, but I’ve been reading warmer reviews elsewhere from both people who have and haven’t watched the original.
“What, it’s not possible that a regular writer is bad, and has a body of work demonstrating that?”
Exactly right. The original is one of the masterpieces of the medium, and it’d be almost impossible to add something vital to it.
Why do you keep coming here? Go somewhere you won’t be so miserable. The fact that you feel the need to comment multiple times on every Barsanti article is a bizarre addiction you’re inflicting on yourself. Be free, fly away and find peace.
About what I expected, honestly. There was no way they’d be able to improve upon Cowboy Bebop without massively diverting from the original (because this wasn’t a show where isolated improvements would make a notable improvement), and the Netflix Suits would be terrified by making any notable changes from the original…
Milk chocolate is the worst chocolate. And Hershey’s is the worst milk chocolate. I don’t need any explanation for that - it’s simply the truth.
Hershey’s new Pennzoil bar!
I wouldn’t say that it tastes like vomit, but it doesn’t taste good.
