Attempting to encapsulate all of a movie’s qualities with a one-byte letter grade has always been ridiculous. The world would be a better place if film reviews never contained letter grades or star ratings or any other kind of numerical summary.

In retrospect, Iron Man 3 was a continuation of my biggest problem with the MCU: they turned Iron Man into a sentient deus ex machina. The bulk of the movies were a series of problems being solved by Iron Man inventing whatever needs to be invented to solve the issue, with absolutely no difficulty. This trend

“May the force be with you.”

July to December isn’t just Winter to Spring, it’s a fair chunk of Summer too and I can tell you from first hand experience of working throughout the year in similar conditions in North Western Australia’s Pilbara region it’s no picnic - even in Winter.
Heat stress is still a massive risk - the glare from the sun

Safe has more meanings beyond a threat to physical safety, particularly in discussions surrounding workplace environments. It may be helpful to think of safe as opposed to hostile in this context. In a safe space, you feel free to speak and—in an artistic sense—take risks. If you do not feel safe in a space, if you do

He’s British. Being called a cunt for showing up massively late is the least insulting way she could have berated him.

Dear Tom Hardy:

Consistently showing up 3,4 hours late for a professional film is more than disrespectful. As the #1 on the call sheet, it actively wastes hours of the crew’s time, contributes to a horrible set atmosphere and morale, and costs the production millions of dollars. Insane that was allowed

I would say holding up an entire production crew for three hours (despite specific requests to please not do so yet again) is just as disrespectful as berating staff. I’d rather someone yell at me than repeatedly show up hours late and not give a shit about my time and my craft. Obviously everyone has their own

“Now that I’m older, MAYBE I could rise to the level of showing up for work on time.”

The real test will be whether or not Radcliffe can capture Yankovic’s wild energy and whether or not he can actually sing some parody songs

Is he happy?  I think I’ve seen smile like once, ever, and it was a creepy smile.

I blame the timing.  Do we really need a show right now about a massive segment of the population dying off in the midst of an actual plague that has killed millions?  Though it got good reviews, even Station Eleven, I thought was rather crass in its timing, and I noped out of t part way through.  I just don’t need

“Oh, you meant strictly cars crashing! Well then!”

No, both things can be true at the same time: It’s factually wrong in that not one single car crashes into another in Dune but it’s still not entirely wrong in that Marvel movies are formulaic. It’s also, as I stated, wrong in a ‘Let people like things!’ sense.

I don’t agree that enjoying a marvel movie makes someone uneducated. I think many people enjoy some escapism.

For those wondering, the last 2+ years haven’t been super great.

with Coppola, with Scorsese, with Ridley Scott

“Back in the day we’d just hand John Boorman all the money and cocaine he wanted and deal with the consequences later, because that’s what artists do.

No. Stop. Stop it. We know. American New Wave directors don’t think they make movies like they used to. This is not a story. Stop trying to make this a story. We know.

The reason this is dumb is not that he’s wrong about most movies being samey; it’s that it’s not a new criticism, has always been true of movies, and has always been true of all media of any kind. Making innovative art is hard, has always been hard, and will always be hard; people generally want art like the art
