Admittedly the only bit of his hosting gig I watched was the Taylor Swift joke (to see what the fuss was about), but that one died in his delivery. Koy can’t blame the writers or the audience for that one. I’m not saying it was a particularly well written joke to begin with, but he’s the reason it landed with a thud.

“Stand ups are like cops”.

I just watched the Mulaney monologue today and it was so good. He can get away with some pretty decent barbs, like the stuff about Mel Brooks, because there’s a clear awareness of and affection for who he’s talking about.

He’s not sticking up for himself, he’s going on the attack, which he’s been doing since the whole debacle started. He’s blamed his writers for not giving him good material, he’s blamed the show for not giving him enough time, he’s blaming the audience now for being marshmallows. If he said “It’s a hard job and this

I hate the “I’m from a different time” bit. Bro, you’re alive and currently working. You’re in this time. If your views on the world haven’t adapted to be relevant to the world you’re living in, then update or quit.

I mean, yeah, he could not bring it up. He could just do a good set and show people what he’s like at the top of his game.

It’s an excuse that not many other professions can get away with. If you were a caterer given explicit instructions not to put peanut oil on the food because the guests are allergic, and then you slathered your meals in the stuff, you wouldn’t be able to say, “Man, people today are such marshmallows about what they

I’d love to see how the pre-game banter goes with her:

“Have you tried acting, dear boy? It’s less sociopathic.”

I’d have thought an actor of James McAvoy’s renown would merit a mention somewhere in this review.

‘Nowhere Boy’ is one of those films I’m pretty sure I’ve seen but can remember no details of.

“Did you send those flowers to Elton John’s grave?”

Yeah, this idea that having a social media account comes with some responsibility to address any and all injustices - it’s particularly strong for celebrities but people will apply it to any random schmuck who gets enough attention - is the stupidest kind of brain rot. Does anyone think that a powerfully worded tweet

Judge him by his peskiness, do you?

Gotta say, Ms Carlin nailed it, especially the bit about listening to current comedians. Carlin was a hugely influential figure, but the best stand-up, I think, is always reflective of its time. Which is another reason AI is not suited for it; it has no ability to tap into the zeitgeist.

Ethical quandaries like, “Is it proper to have sex with your commanding officer if you’ve both passed Warp 10 and turned into lizards?”

They could take a page out of Marvel’s book and do ‘Bond 1602'. Have him as an agent of the Crown involved in courtly intrigue.

Is there something special about American cinemas? Whenever I read discussions about going to the movies in these comments sections, people talk about it like they’re describing some dystopian Mad Max style death pit. The cinemas here in Australia are generally pretty nice and clean.

I know TV shows used to go on for years upon years (and some, like ‘The Simpsons’, are still chugging along), but in most cases I’d say seven seasons is plenty. Chances are you’ve probably said all there is to say in that time anyway.
