You bring up some good points that are definitely worth discussing. The conversation over “leaks” in gaming journalism is an interesting one, and one we’ve discussed a LOT internally. (I sit next to Stephen, and he and I have conversations about this sort of thing ALL the time.)

For many years I worked as a CM for a game developer, we used to recieve threats all the time, most we were able to write off as overzealous fans lashing out.

Does it really matter? Credible or not I think it helps to publicize this sort of stuff — both to expose this ugliness and to push sites like Twitter to improve their harassment policies.

If I read the article right, they didn’t disable the mod; they just removed it from their own website. You can still get it at third-party sites, including ModDB. That sounds pretty close to the approach you’re recommending, no?

And they can. You can still get and install the mod, just not from Steam. Let’s not pretend like the discussion surrounding the mod was pure hearted and innocent. Paradox obviously doesn’t want that available through a channel it has control over.

I think there’s a problem if your personal fantasy involves all the people in powerful positions being white.
