Most Swedes these days are mortified about that. I’ve had people literally apologise to me for not backing us in the war (I’m British). I think a lot of people forget just how vulnerable they were stuck between Russia and Germany - and also how much they quietly helped in the Cold War.

But everyone in Sweden has been an infant, so they’re paying back into a system they directly benefited from (unless they are immigrants who will never have kids, but most people who move to Sweden probably see social benefits as one of the reasons to move there).
