The fact that it’s powersliding, while still carrying the inside front tire, is remarkably insane.

After buying a 130 year old house I’ll attempt to DIY everything I can. I even had to dig up and repair the foot valve of my well.....that was under the concrete porch....under the deck off the side of my house. They had built a small room with cinderblock walls that ended up collapsing over the years. 3 days of labor…
It’s funny how people loved to bash how bad the transmissions were, yet they would drive it 100K miles without pulling the dipstick.
Ahh, I recognize that van. I think you and I talked some on facebook, isn’t that 3.8 swapped?
I had a 2014 Grand Caravan for a while, and honestly it was super nice. Quiet except if you rolled the windows down above 50MPH and you’d get wicked wind buffering (like most modern cars) and on a road trip From PA to TN with the cruise set to 70 it rewarded me with 25MPG. And the stow and go I thought I would never…
I was first a dumb teenager with a turbo van, and then a 3.3 93 van. Later on I was a stupid adult with a van, and I’ve never even felt close to flipping one.
This is a video of my buddy autocrossing his turbo-swapped van at GRM in 2016. I got to drive it a little bit when I was working in Texas and he helped me do the…
A beaten to death suspension will do that. It’s night and day what a set of struts, shocks, and swaybar bushings will do for one of these.
Personally, I’ve towed with both a 2.5 4 cylinder and a 3.0 v6 van, however both were 5 speed vans. The v6 was a swap since Chrysler never made a v6 5 speed van. Towing cars that weigh 2500-2800 pounds with a tow dolly they do just fine. The 4 cylinder could be scary to get rolling just like any slow tow vehicle, but…
The early Mitsubishi designed 3.0 motors did have an issue with the valve guides dropping down and causing oil leaks. And the automatic transmissions had a problem with the lockup converters staying ‘almost’ locked. If it was the 4 speed they didn’t downshift quickly, and would cause the stalling issue.
I bought this one for $900 in 2016 in Dallas. I put a 5 speed transmission in it and drove it home to Pennsylvania. It’s needed nothing other than bare minimum maintenance and axles because I had it too low in the front for a bit. Bought with 215k on it, I’m at 255k now and this picture is from 2 weeks ago. It cruises…
Oof I’d love to add this to my fleet of beaters.
What’s trash about them besides the average for the 80’s interior? They’re quiet, they cruise on the highway great, they can hold a full sheet of plywood with all the seats out, they look good when they’re lowered, and they tow pretty well.
They still are *shrug*. I daily drove an 87 Aries for a few years, and currently daily an 89 Grand Caravan during all the warmer months around here. A little bit of maintenance goes a long way.
Eh, a little bit of preventative maintenance goes a long way with the K based cars, along with adding towing coverage to your insurance policy. Besides, my 89 Grand Caravan has been my tow vehicle for about 4 years and I haven’t needed to get it towed yet.
I had a $600 Aries I bought a few years ago that I pumped up with R134 and it worked rather well. If I remember correctly, they used similar AC units for the minivans as they did for the cars, so they’re oversized and end up working great with even newer refrigerant in them.
This would pair greatly, with my SRT-4 swapped woody wagon (the former NPOCP car).
David, glad to see you got this beast on the road!
His impression of Napalm Death was spot on.
I hardly use my cruise control since it’s a manual and it sucks on the hilly areas here.
Also, everytime I see autopilot malfunctions I think of The Simpsons.
Technically a racing movie....
