I have been trying for almost twenty years to get my wife to drive a stick.

There comes a point to admit you have lost an argument and that was several years back.

My car still has a stick though. 

I would have persistently asked the dealer if they had accounted for the recent updog shortage. 

I’d be inclined to inject this into the conversation: “You do understand that you’re throwing away the opportunity to make some money, right?  If you send me away then you have no chance whatsoever, instead of the rapidly diminishing chance you currently have.”

My wife has no desire to learn to drive a stick, and it’s convenient to have an automatic that we can both drive. My solution is just to have another car that is a manual. Simple enough, but not the solution for everyone.
