By the time you realize things are going wrong, that couple minutes are already gone. You have a few seconds at most to get out of the car before it turns into an inferno.

No, the problem is thermal runaway. Even if the initial fire is put out, it’s still likely to re-ignite other cells from the latent heat.
Any repair that costs 30-40% of a car’s MSRP is outrageous.
If this guy had comprehensive coverage through an insurance company, the company would’ve written the car off, simple due to the price of the repair. A part that small failing, should not create a repair bill that puts the car on a salvage title.
it isnt but if your engine needs a new thermostat you dont need to replace the whole engine. the cost for this repair is outrageous and its ridiculously wasteful.
The point is you shouldn’t have to replace an entire $16k battery because a plastic nipple for a low pressure cooling system was cracked. This should be a $1 part that can easily be replaced on said battery pack.
You buy a lot of $16,000 iPhones?
So you didn’t watch the video enough to see the testimony from the other owner who had this exact fix done 27k miles ago? Sounds like a fix to me that ended pretty well.
What makes you think the brass coupling will warp?
I’m sorry, the brass will what now?
It doesn’t cost $40k to replace an iPhone, but yeah.
Why would the brass fitting warp?
How is this janky? This fix is less likely to break than the original design.
ICE vehcles are only a small part of the problem and to ad-lib a Rage lyric a little bit - fuck the G ride, its the machines that are making them that are the real problem.
FIRST GEAR: Fuck Elon. He doesn’t have to like the guys questioning him, nor is he required to. They’re doing their job. The fact that he brings up people’s backgrounds and insults them only shows what a Trump-like turd he is. Anyone remember his “pedophile” comments?
Electric cars will not slow down global warming significantly. Commercial sectors need to get involved first. Battery chemistry needs to be less toxic (preferably non-toxic). commercial farming and ranching needs to get onboard (and we need to eat less meat(methane...)) etc.
Honestly just 2 things
None of them.
I think no matter how good Tesla does with computer vision, it’s not going to be enough. I don’t see any way for self-driving to cross that gap from “almost usable, but a bit too sketchy” to “can actually let it drive” without well-integrated LIDAR and cameras combined. Cameras identify objects, signs, lights, etc.. an…
OK Elon, now do a test in Appalchia. I need to know if self-driving will dodge a deer that jumps out in the middle of 6 miles of S-curves without sending me into oncoming traffic.
Or is the pointy truck deer-proof too?
“Beta 9” is far too optimistic of a title for this, considering it’s in customers’ hands. More like “Alpha 0.9".
