I can’t speak for SailGP, but with America’s Cup yachts, the power for controlling sails and hydraulics for the foils comes from a bunch of bicyclists (sorry, CYCLORS!), making them nominally and at least theoretically human powered, and the electronics are just a transmission means.

The Cuck with the Cybertruck - by Dr Suess

Damn you gave me an idea.

Drove his truck into town

You know what? I’m good with seeing pictures of the Titanic. Send the ROVs down to the dead-in-a-millisecond depths and project the images on a big screen. I’ll pretend that the wreck is 5 feet in front of me from 12,000 feet above it.

Now playing

Racing any kind of dumb vehicle is great racing.

Everything I read has led to the conclusion that the Cybertruck is a bad idea in general.

Dang no love for the Civic Si.  You can get them new for just over $30k.

Would not be shocked to learn that cops have an unconscious bias against cars they perceive as foreign/elitist.

“Tesla told them it needed a battery, because Tesla only replaces the whole thing. They don’t do component replacement like we do,” he continued. “Any Model S that has been supercharged a lot, early ‘12, ‘13, ‘14, those cars, their batteries are failing,”

Not as big a hit, but a hit. I checked Hertz used car sales site and they have about 1000 2023 model year Bolt EVs and EUVs, most are listed for around $20,000 or less. Dealers in this region are asking around $4k to $6k more for 2023s with low(ish) mileage.

You mean my wife’s 2015 BMW 435i Gran Coupe xDrive M Sport had too long of a name?

Right, the cost to an individual is cheap but Tesla is one of the cases where economics of scale doesn’t apply because of maintenance parts shortages. Waiting on parts creates down time which means the car that should be generating money is now costing money.  So while a Tesla may be cheaper to maintain for a standard

For a business, downtime to get a repair could easily be more valuable than the repair itself. Tesla is known for being quite slow with their repairs/parts, so a $200 repair could cost $1000 in down time. Tesla just handily beat almost everyone is lowest cost of ownership by Consumer Reports.

If you’re thinking of buying one, it could be a great experience to rent it for a few days just to use at home.

I’ve never understood the idea that people would want EVs as a rental car.  Going to a location like a hotel or VRBO, not knowing if there’s charging stations nearby (or how to use them, if ICE is all you know)...seems like a nope.  Not a headache I want to deal with while traveling for biz...

They do have low maintenance. Tires are one thing that does cost a bit more on an EV. The high torque also means you’ll tear that rubber off faster with a lead foot. I highly doubt anyone renting an EV is babying it and that cost would eat into Hertz bottom line.

Car rental companies like to have their cake and eat it too. They typically buy cars cheap as part of a large fleet sale and sell them before or just after their bumper to bumper warranty ends.

It is most likely a combination of tires and repair costs outside of warranty.
