They typical way these car makers cheat, is to burn less DEF fluid during the cheat cycles than during the test cycles. The cheat cycles end up being more fuel efficient because no fuel is used to activate the particulate filters.
It’s not like you run the AC all that often in Germany. If they were going to cheat, wouldn’t they cheat in a way that actually makes sense? I have to believe BMW’s explanation that this is a bug. A bug in the software is far more believable. This is not the kind of thing that anyone not specifically looking for it…
