Yeah, I guess my comment was ambiguous enough, but I wasn’t discussing that guy. My comment was more pointed to the people in charge of hiring this guy who were told what happened and did nothing until they were publicly called out for it.

If not, then gross.
Give who the benefit of the doubt, the guy propositioning teenagers?
This:
If you design grills for McDonald’s, and a teenager came to you and said “hey, the guy playing Ronald is sexually harassing me,” would you be comfortable telling them you aren’t qualified to intervene because your technical skills lie elsewhere?
Holy shit. In my career I am a mandatory reporter so I am literally required by law to report anything I hear from kids to the authorities. I have done so on many occasions. Reading this whole thing is just gross. It is again a matter of prioritizing profits and sales above the welfare of your customers. This guy…
I would have agreed with you until right before the Super Bowl.
Thanks for sharing that story. I hope I was wrong about him and this is who he really is.
Deadspin is partly a media watchdog. It used to target ESPN but the world has changed and so has the enemy.
“I’ve seen more headlines here about Bill Simmons and Barstool than specific sports stories.”
And your extreme need to defend racism and misogyny is known as being an asshole.
Revenue is not a measure of success. I don’t think you understand that. Companies can generate revenue and still post losses.
I mean we do know that a lot of their revenue is from stealing other people’s content. Maybe they should start claiming that as a victory.
Oh I am not representing Deadspin in any way here. I personally, however, am totally being holier-than-thou towards anyone who willingly listens toor reads Barstool. I am very proud to do that. I might get a t-shirt made that says, “I am a better person than anyone who reads or listens to Barstool” and it will be…
Revenue is not the greatest indicator of success. I could name probably a half-dozen better metrics, but I’ll just start with ROI. Although Net Income is a pretty good one, too.
Barstool is unquestionably more successful. Pardon My Take is one of the most popular podcasts out with amazing guests willing to come on 3 times a week. Deadspin has nothing comparable to the numbers that PMT does, and that’sjust one podcast. I would bet my house that Barstool pulls more annual revenue by a mile.
A quick google shows Deadspin in the top 12 of most trafficked sports sites for Jan 2019, while neither barstool or the ringer are in the top 20
We don’t have a means to make a claim about how much money they’re making. Those numbers are not public.
Barstool is more successful because they are able to get Jamie Kennedy to come on a podcast three times a week because he has nothing better to do is a pretty spicy take.
This would be a devastating blow if they hadn’t already addressed it and evolved as a company and a brand while long-term writers like Drew and Barry have apologized for Deadspin’s past (and their own on this site) and jumped aboard the “don’t write like an asshat” train.
