Having been to European cites many times, ban the damn diesels. Most cities I’ve been to there smell like I’m breathing through a diesel smoke stack. It’s terrible. Our latest trip, my wife was pissed at the diesel smell on Coastal Italy. She goes, “How do people stand this smell all day?” Totally agree.

My old 991 7-speed in regular driving was usually 1-2-3-5-7. Just too many gears. The new BRZ with it’s short final drive is now 1-2-4-6, though 6th revs at 3,400 at 75. Yikes!

Wow. Great reasoning and interesting comments.

Ha ha! Though sorry to hear about your wife’s injury. Now owning that BRZ, with it’s power curve, it would be interesting to see how you could drive it with an automatic without manually shifting it the whole time. If you’ve tried the new 2017, I’m actually quite surprised how much power there is between 2,400-3,500

Having only driven the new Mustang GT for 2 days in a row, the Z and Ford are two completely different cars. The Mustang is much more A GT car, as labeled, but it’s a pretty heavy car. As you said, the Z is pretty light, but it’s also pretty raw- raw in a good way.

Nice! ND Miata is a good choice. We we’re thinking along the same lines with the fun, FWD hatch. When I lived with the Z for years, you actually start to appreciate that it was more sports car than grand tourer. Also, 3,200 lbs is not heavy for a 332 HP car. Though that is certainly heavier than the last Mini Coop.

I did read that comparison. I was surprised Nissan only used a base in their test fleet.

It needed an oil cooler and better brake pads off the bat.

I owned a 2009 370Z Sport for almost 3 years. I then had a Jaguar XKR, Focus ST, Porsche 991.1, and now BRZ Performance Package.

Drive one, and find something better for the price. You won’t find almost anything

Louis C.K. reference!

In person, the RCZ is one of the prettiest cars I’ve ever seen.

Or vape, bro.

He should be an HPDE coach for retirement! He’d sound like a co-driver!

Well crabby Max, have you ever used any sort of electronic device where if there’s a loose connection with anything, you get a voltage arc? Tough with newer cell phones, but not impossible. Why are you pumping gas on a cell phone anyway? You just here to argue?

But when you drive them, there is a huge difference. Looks are one thing. Driving them is another.

It still doesn’t make perfect sense to me. Maximum acceleration in a given gear is at the torque peak, but maximum acceleration at a given speed is at the HP peak. That phrase doesn’t make sense to me, and if I wanted to accelerate the fastest to get the greatest speed, why don’t I just keep my manual transmission

By your logic, in my old Focus ST, I should be at the racetrack trying to stay at 2,500 RPM, the peak torque RPM for maximum acceleration and minimum lap times.

Finally! Can the other side just stop now? I feel like this thread got so few comments because the torque crowd just got up and left the table.
