Journalistic style guides usually recommend using “innocent” rather than “not guilty” because the “not” could be easily lost during the writing / editing process. “Innocent” is not as precise as “not guilty,” but a typo with “innocent” is less likely to confuse / mislead readers or get a publication sued.

Well, I understand the reason they use “not guilty” instead of “innocent,” but it’s a political one. It makes people who disagree with the finding feel better about it and recognizes that the system can make mistakes. There is no procedural difference.

But in a court of law, a defendant is innocent until proven guilty. So if you can’t prove guilt, he’s innocent. What is the difference?

He doesn’t have a voting record because he wasn’t a Congressman. So check out his record in Massachusetts and let me know what racist policies he enacted as governor.

You’re making my point for me. You’re assuming you can call him a racist because of your personal prejudice against rich, white, men. That’s not a good look for someone decrying prejudice.

You’re hitting on the disconnect though. Even though people’s beliefs on race are a spectrum like everything else, there is only room for the most drastic views in our public debate.

Murders, rapists, and many other people are worse. It’s silly to pretend otherwise. Racism is a horrible societal problem, and murder being worse doesn’t change that.

Mitt Romney isn’t a racist. That’s the point. His father was revered in Michigan for his work as a civil rights lawyer, and the Romney family all but forced the Mormon’s into accepting black members in the 60's.

Kind of makes you wish people hadn’t gone all in on calling Romney and every other major GOP candidate a racist before the real one showed up.

Because she probably got 1000 death threats. That’s the problem with this kind of story. She’s the villain of the story, but now it’s likely that other people have threatened her with violence, which is even worse.

Adjunct. That’s about one step above a shoe salesman.

He only needed to shed .2 lbs. Fighters are allowed to exceed the weight by 1 lb.

So the two guys holding the towel clearly just held it taught enough so Cormier could push down on it with exactly 1.2 pounds of pressure without it giving. How is that a legal weigh in?

I haven’t followed the NHL for awhile, so I had to look up the playoff seeding format to understand why the first round has a 2 vs. 3 matchup and...

We all know how rigged the NBA draft has always been, So their is no way the Association takes the 3rd pick away from the Lakers

Biggest game of the year for the Sixers is tomorrow night, when the Lakers play the Kings. If the Lakers win it cements them above the Suns and if the Kings lose they can still fall behind the Knicks. Let’s go Lakers?!?

“I don’t believe in it,” Walton said. “I believe in trying to play the right way and have a culture that you’re gonna try to win no matter what. You start losing on purpose, I think the basketball gods come back to get you in the long run. Good things aren’t gonna work out for you. We try to do things the right way

Fun fact: Kahaloa also means goodbye.
