If those planes are that bad, then could you explain to me how the F-15 has managed to develop a 103 to 0 air to air record, and the F-16 has developed a 78 to 1 air to air record? All against the same generation as they are too. Those are some impressive records for a “highly flawed air superiority fighter”, and an

While poking around came across this completely unrelated article on the 4477th Test & Evaluation Squadron -

I vaguely recall 3 different designs. The one I originally posted, another one that would pop up in the “discount toy section” (back when only the cheap crappy stuff had made in china on it) and this one. First link has beter shots. Second has history

I will definitely keep an open mind on top mounted inlets. Would definitely be interesting to see how they tackle it if Northrop chooses to go that route. Once dod finalizes the requirements on the 6th gen is going to a really interesting time.

Keep in mind the 6th gen is planned to use the Adaptive engines with all the fancy bypass crap and “stuff”

I think you are looking at this with hindsight.

Looking at the placement and design of those intakes I disagree that they would direct airflow required for proper engine performance at anything over subsonic speeds at moderate AOA and above.

For designs like that, the issues with yaw and oscillations can be handled by controls surfaces and the flight control system. Initiate the roll and the computer handles the details to keep the nose pointed at what you want it too.

That’s the one.

Search for TopMounted Inlet systems Feasibility for Transonic-Supersonic Fighter aircraft. It’s a pdf from nasa

Holy crap. Posting a link to a pdf on this phone sucks.

Trying to post damn nasa study on top mounted inlets on supersonic aircraft but this stupid phone....

Nope. Won’t work unless you enjoy airflow issues to the engines. For an attack plane\bomber those overwing inlets are fine but for a fighter that would be expected to explore higher AOA at speed that design is a no go.

Sportbikes, Standards, Cruisers, dirtbikes, tourers, sport tourers....love em all. Love me some motorcycles since I started riding back in the old timey days known as the early 90's. My money goes to sportbikes but I’d rock any bike that doesn’t require me rebuilding a carb every other tankfull.

There is a bit of misleading info going on here.

The b1b’s intakes might strongly disagree about mach 2.

Portland might seem like a funny place for the best selling Ducati dealership

dammit...want to edit out fan size crap but kinja.

You DO NOT want to swap the F135 with the F119. NO, NOPE DON’T!!
