As a recent recipient of a PhD: ugh.

I can picture an 18 year old trying to sell this to their parents.

If only I had more stars to give...

Poli sci, too :(

Bennington’s definitely going to see a spike in kids who settle on ‘marijuana cultivation’as their self-created major.

Saw it when I lived in Columbus and took a drive one weekend.

Just thinking about that makes me nauseous.

I was going to say ‘why don’t they just use real, biodegradable sprinkles and warn folks their clothes may get stained if they come into contact with them’ but then the museum would have to deal with birds, reptiles, etc. that have heart disease and other health issues.

I totally agree- educaion is vital, and sex ed is such a pivotal aspect of changing how boys understand girls/women and their behavior toward them.

I do think boys can be changed- it just feels like that behavior is (depressingly) deeply embedded in out culture and will take a lit more time and effort to change. Of course we should work on it because that’s the source of the problem. But I can remember being 14/15 and doing things with guys that I really didn’t

Believe me- I wish it were possible to wholly reshape the gender dynamics of our culture so that boys would never pressure girls for nudes. That is the true root of this problem. I never intended my comment to suggest I blamed the girls. I’m just working from what appears to *maybe* be functionally possible.

As I said above, based solely on my teenage interactions with boys, this seemed like the less realistic option.

This is probably a result of some horrific interactions with teenage boys when I was also a teenager, but I dismissed that as a realistic possibility from the outset. Taking that one to therapy with me this week...

This is such a thorny issue. The only meaningful way to address it would be to somehow ensure girls reach their preteen/teen years with an intact sense of self and enough self-esteem so that they wouldn’t feel the need to look for or have a boyfriend until they actually met a worthy, respectful candidate, probably

I know it was mentioned on the pot psychology post, but a Jez alum was punished (well, moved within the organization at least, giving the outward appearance of punishment) for inappropriate behavior in a role at Vice. I thought about it for a while- how should Jezebel handle that? What responsibility do they have as

Slightly OT, but my boss took his employees (including me) to a swanky lunch the Wednesday before Christmas this year, and Billy Bush was a couple tables away with about 10 other bros, bro-ing it up hard. Almost every single dude at the table ordered wienerschnitzel (baby cow cutlets) and they were all drinking,

I appreciate the leeway :)

At least Oliver highlighted Hoffman’s bad behavior. There were so many stories coming out at that particular time, it felt like some got lost in the shuffle. If nothing else, Oliver reminded us that Hoffman committed bad acts and had not answered for them. And that’s not nothing.

Well I typed ‘carbon dioxide’ when I definitely meant ‘carbon monoxide’, so I’ve lost it as well as definitely being an ass.

I googled it just to make sure That wasn’t the case, because it somehow seemed plausible!
