I know what transgressive means.

How does this upset the paradigm rather than reaffirm it? This is a celebration and not a challenge unless you want to say that everything is A-OK and there aren’t terrible imbalances around identity, power, and class

A mainstream publication lauding this removes the transgressiveness that it contains. Also, content-wise, how does this subvert the dominant paradigm?

This play can’t be both lauded in mainstream publications like the New York Times and deemed transgressive. Pick one.

This is bare-minimum good. I’m glad she’s not going to spend her life behind bars, but she’s still going to be in prison through August 2019 and on parole (somewhat of an open-air prison) for 10 years. That’s not true freedom, that’s punishment by another name.

“If it wanted to receive federal funding, I wonder if it would need to meet requirements set by the Department of Education”

I don’t have hate or disrespect toward him for wanting to accomplish something, but don’t think his focus is on the right targets and he 1) promotes a difficult but admirable goal, 2) offers a not completely terrible historical analysis, 3) provides dumb-dumb separations based on sex/gender/orientation/class/religion/

Meat offers calorie-dense nutrition and can help with nutrient absorption through the fat content. “Not meat” can be good for things like lowering sodium intake, increasing fiber intake, increasing vitamin intake, and other pieces. I don’t think one is inherently better than the other, but some of them have more

A lot of it is fat, salt, and pepper, which is undeniably great. I’m not saying I don’t like a well-prepared steak, but it’s not essential for me. I also vary my diet over the course of a year so that certain months will be meat and dairy free and I don’t miss it as much as I’d think - but I do appreciate it

i’ve gone back and forth (6 months vegan, 6 months omnivore) and the difference for me is volume. Meat is very calorie dense, so it just means eating a much larger quantity and being more diverse in my choices. Vegetarianism is much easier as it allows for honey (and eggs for some), but I don’t need dairy (and no, I

Veganism makes sense, but there’s this bar to jump over to make it appealing to people. How do you swap vegetables for meat/ eggs/ dairy AND explain it in the traditional world? What works for me on a 1-for-1 swap are root vegetables for meat, tofu/seitan for eggs, and yeast for cheese. with seasoning and preparation

I’m estimating ~15 people in the primaries. The ones that seem to be known the most by name and ideas are 1) Clinton, 2) Bernie, 3) Warren, 4) Biden, 5) O’Rourke. After that comes the “outsiders.” Only 18 months till elections (holy shit is that far away)

I really liked this article. I usually like to keep a few ideas in my head when interacting with women:

I’d say Malcolm X was his defining role because he got to play Malcolm Little, Detroit Red, Malcolm X, and El Hajj Malik Al Shabbazz. And you got to see the dynamics of humanity: put into you (parents & society), learned from others (Elijah Muhammed), negotiating with others (Betty Shabbazz), and learned within (the

He might be the angriest man in Hollywood, with good reason. He gave so many good performances, from Steve Biko, to Bleek Gilliam, to Malcolm X (really like 6 performances), to (my personal favorite) Easy Rawlins and ultimately wins the premiere award for playing a pimp-like corrupt cop. He gave a lot of depth to a

This headline is terrible and goes into speaking for all black people, but the whole article is a pretty good argument.

She’ll be replaced by another legal scholar, likely Amy Coney Barrett.

This is beyond fucked up. I wrestled for *years* in the mid-Atlantic and south and have known people to do disgusting things to have a slight psychological advantage, including but not limited to 1) not showering for a week to be smelly and slippery during a tournament, 2) giving an opponent an “oil change” (thumb in

IF they get some teasers on Showtime and build the online/offline hybrid well, then the duo could replicate their success AND boost Showtime. They were the only show I watched on Vice, mostly because their other shows feel cheap and aren’t entertaining. D&M felt cheap, and that was part of the charm, but it was

Overall, I really liked the movie.
