That’s not quite the case. The US spends by far the highest percentage of GDP on defence - but not all of that is allocated to NATO - the spending on, say, the Pacific is irrelevant to NATO. In fact, other countries - such as Germany - devote a far higher percentage of their spending to NATO activities.
