People absolutely were saying similar things about Thurmond when he was rotting in office. For that matter, it got said all the time about Reagan when he was in office.

It’s been so long since Thurmon was in that I don’t remember what the general public sentiment was. But I had family members bitching about him being unfit due to his health in addition to his racism (Biden would probably remember since he eulogies the guy).

So many haters on that movie, for reasons I’ve never understood. I absolutely love it. Davis and Jackson are both great, plus you get Brian Cox in one of his best crotchety old bastard roles. Craig Bierko is also one sexy psychopath.

I would love a sequel to “The Long Kiss Goodnight” reuniting Jackson and Gina Davis, and with Brie Larson starring as Gina Davis’ now-adult daughter. It is never ever going to happen, but I want it all the same.
