Vietnam has two of the frigates with two more ordered. Egypt’s purchase of the Mistrals doesn’t make a whole lot of sense for just Egypt. But if Egypt takes the military lead (they have the largest standing army) in a Saudi funded Arab Alliance it makes a lot of sense.

Everyone else does fine with dark blue/gray.

It does make it harder to see all the blood spilt on deck.

How do they get them to Vietnam? By train?

The West’s priorities in the Levant just barely overlap with Russia’s priorities. Nowhere near enough overlap for even some lip-biting realpolitik.

Their Gepard class frigates look very similar too. No coincidence those are the two ship classes that Russia is selling for export.

“ironic_username” is claiming that the zionist propaganda from CNN is not to be trusted. These guys are gonna cause a tin foil shortage.

It would have to be a bad miss to hit Israel, but those missiles had to steer around Turkish airspace. If they had crashed in Turkey you better believe there would be some high level NATO meetings discussing retaliation.

The Caspian Sea is landlocked. The Black Sea is open to the Med. There is a canal that links two river systems that technically connects the Black and Caspian Seas, but I don’t know if these Russian frigates and corvettes can navigate it easily.

It’s a Buyan class corvette. All those angles are indeed to reduce radar cross section. Any new ships designed for the US Navy incorporate similar features. Of course as a Russian ship it still has that ugly red deck paint.

And that’s why they sell an export version with reduced range.

Iran could just buy these cruise missiles from the Russians. I don’t think there’s anything in place to prevent that, except that they may not have ships capable of launching them.

The cannon still fires through the propeller hub in the P-39/P-63, although I’m not sure how it works since the engine is indeed behind the pilot, and the pilot sits on top of the shaft.

No. I have no problem when people present valid arguments and want to participate in a lively discussion. What I can’t stand is when someone hijacks an otherwise interesting thread and calls everyone an idiot for only listening to western media, but the only citations they have are from RT or some Alex Jones level

These aren’t smart munitions, they are cluster bombs with proximity fuses on the bomblets. They’re just activating at a certain distance from the ground, not actively homing on a target. It certainly doesn’t look like they self-destruct harmlessly since the Mashable article had a photo of an unexploded bomblet.

Gotta disagree. Our launch detection satellites are scary good. The US may not see every time anyone fires a missile anywhere on Earth, but they can see every time someone in a monitored conflict zone fires something larger than an RPG. The Buk that downed MH-17 was picked up for sure.

If you look at the map I provided the missiles could have launched from the Tartus or Latakia area without crossing anything but Syrian held airspace. Also a call to the US ambassador would have been polite. We are going out of our way to avoid conflict with the Russians, and they are not reciprocating. I’m getting
