Oh, that makes a lot more sense. I wondered what “audible birthday comments” could possibly mean. “Are they making fun of people having birthdays? Do they hear about someone’s birthday and then speculate rudely on their age? Do they conspire to ruin birthdays?”

Since I used to work for the government, we had to do the active shooter training. Ours was through FEMA and 100% less racist. It happened before San Bernadino, so maybe the tide turned on that particular workplace shooting.

As an abuse survivor, hearing what Milo said was eerily familiar to the crazy things I confided to people before I came out the other side of my pain. It was like, if I could pretend I’d been the instigator, then everything was in my control. And I even projected that onto other victims in much the same way.

It seems disrespectful to her to presume abuse and lack of agency when it seems that she’s made choices in her life that led her here. That said, when I am around women who are in situations that seem abusive, I do tend to watch with a vigilant eye and listen extra carefully in case she indicates she needs help.

I say this with love in my heart, but we need to move past the bargaining stage of our post-election grief. I do agree that these recounts should happen, but we also have to make plans to move forward when nothing much comes out of it.

I am completely the opposite. I hate roller coasters, but that’s part of a huge fear of heights. But the thing for me is, falling from a great height could cause damage. And while roller coasters are safer than driving, there is some danger.

Here’s the thing. You see Oscar-award worthy performances of sexuality and gender all day every day, and you’ve internalized it all to the point that you think it’s “natural.” But it’s not.

I’ve always thought of drag as making fun of the performative aspect of femininity, though I’m sure I wouldn’t have to go too far to find examples of performers taking their acts to an ugly place.

You seem to have a hard time understanding that celebrities are people. She’s a person who considers another person a friend. He’s said something she disagrees with, she’s said she disagrees with what he’s said.
