This. I think Roman was motivated by making daddy proud. Kendall and Shiv were motivating by proving to daddy and by extension everyone else who doubted them, that they were capable of being daddy.

The first glimpse we got of Roman was him offering the servant family a million dollar cheque if their kid hit a home run, and then making a point of ripping it up in front of their faces when that didn’t happen.

Greg the Egg is a great example. At the start of the series he’d been fired from a theme park job he got because his uncle is the CEO for getting high on the job and puking out the eyeholes of his mascot costume. He shows up at a family function asking for a real job with the family company and continually fails…
