I live in Buffalo, NY, own a WRX, and completely agree that most of the time, AWD isn’t needed(snow tires are needed). On the other hand, I can’t imagine having FWD in the winter simply because of how much more fun AWD is in the snow with snow tires. It’s a riot.

Another Bonus for the manual, you can actually turn off Traction/Stability control. At least on the previous generation, any subaru with a CVT(maybe not the new WRX, IDK) cannot fully disable traction/stability without pulling fuses. This means no fun off-road drifting or snow-nuts.
