I don’t see Rex as a deus ex machina so much as a MacGuffin (or more accurately, a supplier of MacGuffins). He doesn’t instantly solve problems for the Alliance, he just points them towards (admittedly deeply convenient) solutions that they then have to figure out the details for themselves.

Maybe it’s just me, but Kevin Kiner’s score for the scene where hera tests the B-Wing (you can hear it at starwars.com as “Hera Soars”) sounded a lot like James Horner’s score for “The Rocketeer.” I’m totally cool with that; both that movie and this episode are about the love of flight, so it’s a nice bit of
