I’m in recovery so a bit sensitive to media portrayal of substance abuse which continuously feeds into the publics terrible perception of addiction. I’m allowed to voice some of my worries when the results of a show that is watched by so many people I know might feed into their poor understanding of substances. 

The showrunners should’ve embraced its weirdness a lot more than they have. The cast plays everything totally straight (not sure I agree with the reviewer about Connolly’s permanently pained expressions) and when it’s a show about an eternal runaway train, that makes everything seem farcical. Happenstance is different than active planning.
