*Thank you!* I knew I knew his name from somewhere else, but couldn’t place where I knew it from. Tone Control was the answer.

And yeah, it does seem weird, because out of the episodes I caught of the podcast, he seemed reasonably normal. I wonder if something changed in the past few years since the podcast ended that

I admit to being out of the professional game dev loop for over a decade, but, when I was in, the only people making 6-figures were the execs/owners/founders of a studio. And I’ve seen the accidentally leaked spreadsheets to verify that (though they’re ancient history by now).

I know things have gotten slightly better

If unions didn’t work, we wouldn’t have a 40 hour work week.”

I am absolutely in favor of Game Devs unionizing, buuuuut I don’t think this singular argument is a solid one to make for an industry that still suffers from Crunch and only very rarely actually gets to see a 40-hour work week. I get where you’re going with

Not-quite-patiently waiting for replies on this myself. I’m interested in hearing if anyone has any input on other games/movies/shows/books with similar settings.

Not-quite-related, but this also reminds me that I need to get around to trying Rebel Galaxy Outlaw. I’ve had it installed since it launched *mumbletime*

“...who could look at that font/spacing and think “yep, looks good, no notes””

An overzealous accountant, that’s who.

Edit: Dammit, Kinja fumbled this reply. Should have been attached to a different comment.

Necropost from commenter that missed the boat when it sailed.

Gotchya. I see what you’re saying now. Thanks for the clarification, and I apologize for the mis-read on my part.

And you’re right, there is an entire genre/sub-genre of games that do include all of those things the author mentioned. Hell, Valheim was one of the buzziest games around just a few months ago, and it

I guess boiling it down to that is one way to look at it.

But I think in that same vein, you may as well agree that Bioshock is just another take on Wolfenstein 3D, or that Warcraft 3 is just another take on Command & Conquer. They may follow similar formats and general gameplay mechanics, but that doesn’t necessarily

That’s actually a super-valid point that I hadn’t made the connection on. And it seems like that could, in fact, do a great deal towards keeping a neighborhood feeling active and vibrant.

It does make me wonder how they’d handle large Guilderhoods(?) though. So, what if your Guild is larger than the amount of homes in

Sorry, I should have communicated my thoughts better, there. Theoretically, I don’t disagree with instanced neighborhoods, but I’ve never seen it pulled off well in any of the games I’ve played thus far. Obviously, I haven’t played everything, so I can’t speak for all, only the experiences I’ve had to date. I’ve seen

I hope it’s not instanced. That always felt lonely to me. I understand there are technological aspects involved (can’t have infinite space) and certain locations are more desirable than others (which leads to either dramatically high prices for plots), but instanced housing always made things feel more lonely to me.

This looks like it could be worth checking out.

I’m ALL FOR an MMO that can provide as much focus on the “lifestyle” as it does on the combat. Hopefully without sacrificing either. I’d still like for there to be some adventuring and combat available, but I don’t want that to be the *only* thing to do in my MMO that

PS2 era, you say?

Tokyo Extreme Racer, or bust!

I had no idea that existed. Thanks for the heads up! I don’t own a miata or VR gear, but hell, this seems like a good excuse to look into getting one.

Besides, I’ve always wanted to get into the ‘24 Hours of LeMons’ and miatas seem to show up in those races quite a bit. Maybe this could be an in-road towards that, too!

You’re absolutely correct that it would be a massive and - to be completely honest - ultimately unreasonable project to do something like that. Particularly with multiple different types of vehicles.

Even the prices I threw in there were.. hmmm.. let’s say “optimistic,” because again, you’re right. Development costs

There really are simulator games for everything these days, but there’s one critical mash-up that’s missing, that I would pay damn good money for.

I want to buy a version of “Car Mechanic Simulator” as a base purchase, and then spend extra money on DLC that’s basically a fully licensed, interactive version of a

This is *precisely* the type of clever humor I appreciate the most. Wonderfully executed.

Came here to ask exactly this as well. The phrasing “tossing it” makes me think that it’s broken up beforehand, but I’d love some clarification on that, if possible!

I could absolutely get behind a game of giant mechs and kaiju beating the crap out of each other. Not as a fighting game style though, that’d just like a cheap skinned game. But something with tactics and strategy involved in terms of where to station which mechs in order to provide coverage for where any threats

A Transformers G1 game similar to XCOM. You start out in the ARK, with limited resources, and need to build it back up to full functionality, eventually calling in more Autobots through a Space Bridge (once you build it) thereby expanding your team. You need to defend the planet from the Decepticons rampant schemes,
