I worked at The GAP for three years in high school when our store closed (there were two others about 20 minutes away and ours was the worst performing one, the others were in bigger and better malls) and they transferred every single one of us to either another GAP or an Old Navy or a Banana Republic. Everyone was to

It's profitable to be the leader of a failing company.

THEY

They could have at least told them the truth. It's one thing to not have the money to pay severance or sick leave, it's another to lie to people who could still have a chance at finding new jobs because you don't want to get fucked over even more. Fuck Wet Seal and their shitty clothes.

#not all pinnipeds

The corporations could give them what they want and deserve by following employment laws. Washington is beholden to the WARN act, they can do like Border's employees did and sue the company.

I can't believe you would club a seal. Wow. ;)

No one is treated with less respect, or less regard for their legally entrenched rights as workers, than retail clothing employees. Want a 4 hr shift at midnight, folding clothes for minimum wage? No? Well, then, you must not have the sort of go-getter attitude we're looking for at Nine Dollar Rayon Sarong Emporium.

I always wondered about mall stores. The malls around where I live are constantly getting rid of old stores and reopening new ones. Which would be somewhat normal except that malls have the most customer traffic of probably anywhere in town except WalMart. Why is this? Is the rent exorbitant?

Wet Seal says "I'll fuck you right back... Soon."

I swear to God, I spent 10 minutes at Target last night trying to figure out how to buy 3 Glad items so I could get a $5 gift card and store them for later. I compared the prices to what I pay for the Kirkland ones, on the margin, and hunted for trash bags and some other things.

Yup, this sounds about right. I was laid off from my (upscale, boutique) retail management job last spring. District manager flew in on a Monday to tell me my last day would be Friday. That, along with a week of severence was considered giving me 2 weeks notice.

The Wet Seal at the Dayton (Ohio) Mall had a sign also. Someone posted it on the r/dayton reddit.

Heck! When I read the title I thought this:

It's not just one store. I saw several other similar signs posted to Wet Seal's facebook page. And a whoooole lot of pissed off comments on basically all of their recent posts. There's also a lot of talk about the ethics of selling gift cards knowing the stores are closing.

Good for them. Fuck that place. I am going to continue not having heard of it before today!

I thought everybody already forgot Wet Seal and that's why they're going bankrupt.

Bankrupt? Seriously?
