Honestly, the behavior of the Oregon players is the least offensive aspect of this entire story.

My problem with accusing these players of trivializing sexual assault is that it implies that sexual assault hasn't already been trivialized in this case. I was listening to Roger Staubach being interviewed on sports radio yesterday and when the subject of Jameis Winston came up Staubach and the interviewer both…
On the one hand, it's shitty and unsportsmanlike.
summed up my feelings perfectly as well.
I agree. He's a dumbass so no, he's not going to be shamed by any of this. He SHOULD be, but he won't. However, like I said, anything that calls attention and puts negative weight on rapists instead of rape victims/survivors for once, I'll get behind.
Call me crazy, but I don't think this trivializes the victim at all. Are these dudes paragons of the feminist mindset? No, probably not. But I think its helpful to remind people, loudly and with choreography, that Winston is a scumbag rapist.
I agree with you.
You know, I'm really torn about this. On the one hand, you're right. They're trivializing sexual assault, and I have no doubt whatsoever that this was done 100% to mock/embarrass/etc. Jameis Winston. I have no illusions that this was some sort of reasoned show of solidarity for the victim or sexual assault victims…
You're assuming that the coach has the same view of the chant and motivation to punish the players that you do, which is sort of preposterous. This is a problem because we're not supposed to think/talk/speak about sexual assault in the context of the glorious game of football, not because the coach thought they were…
THANK YOU! People on one account say that others need to "step up" and say something to shame people do who rape, but when it's done, they don't like the context so it's "trivial" and meaningless? Not getting that. At all.
Also equally shitty that the Oregon punishment is likely not for sexual assault trivialization but for disrespecting another player.
I actually can't find it within me to discourage literally the only public organized football rebuke of Winston. No does mean no and that message is true regardless of the source and, actually, especially if it's leveraged to humiliate the alleged rapist.
I have to disagree. I think they were calling out a fucking rapist who has been gloating and getting put on a goddamn pedestal because he is (usually) good at a stupid game. They handed said rapist his head in the game and then told him karma is a bitch. That's okay by me.
I'd agree but I don't think they're getting suspended because what they did trivialized rape and was disrespectful to victims out there, I think they're getting suspended because Oregon thinks it was disrespectful to Winston and FSU.
As someone who has been involved in anti-sexual violence work for over 20 years and was seriously dismayed at the circus that FSU turned their "investigation" (cough, cough) into in order to protect a football player and someone who will earn millions of dollars for the university . . . I actually think that shaming…
I have to say, it's shitty that the Oregon players are receiving more punishment than the rapist in this situation.
The whole game was a trivialization of sexual assault. The announcers were hammering on the fact that FSU had a chip on their shoulders because they felt the country was against them, and against Winston in particular, and they never, EVER mentioned why.
What else would you expect from a football organization at this point? Football is no place for things like women with their vaginas and attempted equal rights.
One of my facebook friends who is a die hard FSU fan posted a link to the video with the quote "stay class Oregon." I thought that has to be the most ironic thing anyone's ever said about the situation.
This may have been sparked by the incredibly babyish way most of the Seminoles acted after the game—refusing to shake hands and running like little mice into the locker room. Also, the Seminoles were humiliated by the Ducks.
