Shocked to find out the certified dad had ONLY sailed from San Diego down Baja...Hell, I have sailed farther than that! I wouldn't try to take off for Australia wth another adult, let alone a kid. Something is seriously psychologically wrong here.

Really? Humans were meant to live on the ocean in boats?

Agreed. That's exactly why I think they're stupid and selfish.

Not to mention that kids that age are literally dead weight in an emergency (and I would imagine a 39' sailboat is going to do pretty fucking poorly on the open ocean) because they can't swim or do anything else.

Y'know, I read this article and immediately thought to myself, "If only I could somehow work in an idiotic statement about transgendered people, this would really be complete." Congratulations for pulling off what I could not.

Hey now… growing trees faster would have benefits- growers would have to invest much less time, labor, and resources before they start seeing a profit, so it would probably make fruit, wood, and paper cheaper. /pedantic plant biologist rant over

The children are so vulnerable here because of their age. If something bad had happened to the parents, they are immediately in danger, completely unable to help themselves. That's what I find appalling.

I think if you're going to do something as dangerous as sailing around the world, it's perfectly fine as long as everyone on board is an adult and capable of weighing up the risks to their own lives. But I just cannot get my head around why you would want to risk the lives of your own kids when they are too young to

They make you pay for ambulances... right? Seems like having to pay some fee for your rescue isn't crazy.

Jon Hamm AND Paul Rudd?

(hell, I'd pay him if he'd let me)

... Have you been reading my fan fiction?

For $0, I sure would.

So, is this one of those 'limited quantities/one per customer' offers, or can I ride as many times as I want?

What are they, crazy? But then again, what you don't see is that his friend Jon Hamm is standing 10 feet away and offering a dollar plus gum, so.

Excuse me? No one else is raising my kid but myself and my husband. Just because a child goes to daycare does not mean the parents do not raise the child. Where are you getting this ridiculous idea? We are the ones still responsible for educating, feeding, clothing, and teaching my child.

I gotta be honest, I feel the same way sometimes. I would get so frustrated in grad school when the phd students would drop out after getting pregnancy because it made it so much harder for other female students to be taken seriously when we asked for more funding. I remember overhearing one of our professors grumble

I don't even begrudge people who believe their marriage will last (frankly, I don't think you should get married if you don't believe that!) But believing your money-earning spouse won't be in a deadly accident... or get laid off... or one of your kids will need expensive medical treatment... or the economy will

I always think about this. It's one of the areas I think I'm a bad feminist because of. I have a PhD in a science field. I worked my ass off for it. I think when women get PhD's and have no intention of ever working in their field, they wasted a spot that someone who actually wanted a fucking job could have had,

I have a 6 month old, and I work full time. I could quit to stay home, but it's HIGHLY unlikely I would ever find a job like my current one again. Quitting at this point would be career suicide. So here I am. Not that I really mind. I do love my job and I firmly believe that being a working mom will make me a better
