I agree; if you’re buying this you better plan on owning and enjoying it forever. Because once you pass 200K miles this thing’s going to be largely unsellable (just because 99% people see cars are worn out at that price) or you’re going to have an expensive repair that will invoke the fix it or dump it money-loss

Missouri is just Alabama with a playoff-bound football team and a tectonic plate. If the road leads to a church, they’ll repair it. If it leads to where Black people or liberals might live, they couldn’t care less.

Don’t forget fatalities related to having a ‘broken tail light.’

We’ve all been there. I’ve purchased parts on a sale and then put off installing them until after the return window has expired, only to find that they don’t fit. This leads to “My mistake is your gain” FB Marketplace ads.

There is nothing more depressing than spending hours just to end up with all the stock parts

This is an aptly timed article. As someone who also used my Sunday to do what I assumed was a simple air strut replacement on my LR4. It ended 5 hour later, without the new part installed, and me considering just throwing all my tools away in a resignation that car wrenching isn’t for me anymore.

In 2035 ICE automakers will be out of business as the Chinese take over.  That’s what they’re doing to themselves.

No more Social Security, unemployment insurance or worker’s compensation.

I hope the autoworkers are happy they don’t have to build WOKE EVs when they are at home not building anything because their union protections went out the window.

They’re in the process of being replaced by these new trucks (the NGDV) that come in both ICE and EV variants. I believe the first batch are all ICE but will transition to 75% EV later.

God damn all of the stupid racist assholes that voted for Trump. They have already damned the rest of us.

Lowering standards so you can meet them is peak Trump...

While I’d agree that E39s aren’t going to lose value in general, I think the mileage on this one makes it riskier. If the maintenance covers all of the pain points and a lot of the “just old car” things, it may be a decent deal. But if something breaks, you’ll have a nearly 200k mile broken BMW. If you want to drive

Assuming the maintenance was all performed by a good mechanic, this could be a nice price from me, although I would immediately remove the trunk subwoofers. I have a 2002 M5 with about 130K miles and would not hesitate to own one of these higher-mileage E39s so long as they have been well maintained. This car appears

Not true at all. You see these regularly deep into the 200k range. The maintenance is not mild on these, but if you keep up with it they run for quite a long time. Maintenance records are way more important than mileage on a car of this age.

$1000/year really isn't that bad for a super sedan like this. However, he probably didn't spend that $25k over the last 25 years. He probably spent it in the last 3 years, and now he (reasonably) wants out!

That’s true, but anyone who is seriously looking to get into an E39 M5 is aware of this already. That’s also why these aren’t more expensive - nice ones command a huge premium over this, but the driver-quality ones are held back by perceived reliability.

NP unless a thorough PPI reveals any major issues. Especially NP if the rod bearing were done preventively. A history of oil analysis would give context as to the remaining life on the bearings. The E39 M5 seems to be at the bottom of the depreciation curve.

I was on the fence, but the presence of that sub box makes me uneasy about the whole deal. CP

Nice price from me. It’s been maintained for all these years, the major trouble spots have most likely been addressed and you’d probably get back what you put into it a few years down the road if you sell it.
