The entire trip to Vegas here I kept think “Ray, what are you doing here?” The character is totally out of place. Stu, Larry and Glen are BFFs and Ray is like some redshirt they brought along because they needed to be 4 people on this trip instead of 3.

Lloyd in the book - and in the 90s mini-series - is competent. You can see why Flagg made him his “right hand” to run Vegas.

Yeah, I’ve heard stories of people reading the book for the first time and being absolutely gutted when Nick dies. Similarly to those who watched the 90s mini-series.

My favorite chapter in the book is the one after the plague has run its course and it describes all of the random survivors who die through accidents, negligence, or just dumb luck.

To be fair, the “library policeman” in that story is a mythical creature that preys on children, and not a actual human being that is a policeman that works for the library.
