that’s the stigma of being suicidal not a stigma attached to committing suicide

entirely different things

EXACTLY! Disabusing people of the idea that they’d be removing a burden from their family & making them understand that their action would be hurtful, can force them to reevaluate.

HOW can you have no sense or empathy??

I know of cases where it has. The distinction is that wanting to die shouldn’t be stigmatized (so people are not discouraged from seeking help) but killing yourself should be seen as selfish (to discourage ending your torment in a way that makes others suffer).

Yes. I’ve had similar arguments in the past. It’s nonsensical to say we shouldn’t stigmatize killing oneself. If there’s a feeling that it’s not something to condemn then that makes it easier for distraught people to think ‘it’s okay’ and they’re ‘not hurting anyone,’ just ending their own suffering.. Suicide does

Lisa and Melania are a good match, but Trump’s no Oliver. He’s more like Tony Soprano.

Yes, really.

“Trump supporters voted because of jobs, not racism, sexism, homophobia!

yes, but you need to do more than just that. you need to avoid disrespecting their culture too, otherwise they won’t trust you when you say your policies will help them economically

no. democrats do not represent ‘the middle/working class.’ keep thinking that and you’ll keep losing. sanders may have represented ‘the middle/working class,’but he’s only been a democrat for about a year. make no mistake, the democrats and republicans aren’t representing different classes. they’re representing

you can’t expect people to listen to you when you send a message to them that you dislike them.

‘If there’s one thing the Average Joe doesn’t like, it’s someone thinking they’re entitled to a win’ - Yes, the idea that it was “her turn,” but the other thing Avg Joe doesn’t like (and I think this mattereed more) is being insulted. More than anything else, I think that rural red state Americans feel like the

LOL!
not worth the trouble to explain it to you

yeah, there’s that. a big problem is that there’s no universal definition of racism or prejudice and each side plays by different rules.

wow- you’re just a horrible person

exactly- if (given what tinder is for and to avoid awkward encounters) you felt it was appropriate put trans people in separate categories, then that’s just four. maybe intersex is five... a sixth for none of the above, I guess. what the heck are the other 31? a lot of the older voters where I live have only recently

robotics? automation is a factor, but a much bigger factor is outsourcing and gloabalization, which is why trade policy is such a big issue. globalists point out that there’s greater prosperity overall without protectionism or economic isolation, but the benefits aren’t evenly distributed, and some people end up worse

it wasn’t JUST jobs. it was the combination of jobs and the feeling that urban liberals have contempt for red state culture.

they shouldn’t, but that’s not really the issue. the question is whether or not urban liberals have the moral authority to decide what counts as prejudice and what doesn’t. rural red states say that they are no longer accepting standards other want to impose on them.

Actually we (people where I live- that voted 60% for Trump, although not me personally) know exactly what Tinder is. It’s not some urban secret. It’s a matter of how old you are and red states aren’t retirement homes for crying out loud. Moreover, I think Jost was right. I think of myself as very supportive of LGBT
